Steinway & Sons Model B Grand Piano #237578 – Satin Ebony – Undergoing Restoration

Steinway & Sons Model B Grand Pianos continue to be some of the most popular grand pianos ever produced. Measuring just under seven feet in length, these pianos are at home in both personal and top performance use. These instruments exhibit the very best of quality craftsmanship and piano design. Some have dubbed them the world’s ‘perfect piano.’ Manufactured in 1925, Steinway Model B #237578 is in excellent condition and is currently undergoing a full restoration. Benefiting from good maintenance by qualified piano technicians and restoration work over the years, this instrument was selected by us to be one of the pianos we rebuild. This piano was factory repaired by Steinway in 1963. Restoration work from them included a new soundboard, new back action, and a new keyboard. The piano’s factory installed soundboard is in pristine shape with no visible cracks or rib separations.

The action will be fully rebuilt with new dimensionally correct wippens, and premium level hammers, shanks, and flanges. A new custom manufactured back action will be installed. New high-quality acrylic keytops will be installed. Our piano technicians will complete the needed action and tone regulation to ensure the expected Steinway level of touch and sound. The action responds well to a light touch and the piano produces a clear overall tone with a deep, warmer bass section. The piano’s cabinet will be refinished in a high grade, closed pore nitrocellulose lacquer. This will then be hand rubbed to a luxurious satin sheen. The piano’s original nickel hardware is in good condition and will be expertly replated.

This piano has been well maintained by a top-qualified piano technician in Michigan. Due to the work that the piano has received over the years as well as the continued maintenance, this piano was already in great condition. It is very obvious that once a full restoration is completed, this piano will be of a top concert level. Included is a list of work that is currently being executed.
