1926 Mason & Hamlin Model AA Grand Piano #34630 | Satin Ebony – Restored

Founded in 1854, the Mason & Hamlin Piano Company is one of only a few American piano manufacturers still in operation today. Based in Haverhill, Massachusetts the company continues to be a leader in exceptional quality and innovation. The Model AA measures 6’2” in length. (Very comparable in length to the Steinway & Sons Model A Grand Pianos.) Mason & Hamlin instruments are legendary for their incredibly solid build and powerful tone. The uncommonly thick hard rock maple rim design is combined with the unique Mason & Hamlin Tension Resonator which ensures permanence – proven to stand the tests of time and use. All combined, this Crown Retention System helps to lend stability and longevity to the piano’s structure and supports the production of a strong, pure tone.

Fully Restored to Concert Level Standards

This ‘golden age’ instrument features a round arm case with octagonal legs resting in brass ferrules. The satin ebony cabinet has been expertly refinished in a closed pore, hand rubbed lacquer. The cast iron plate has been re-bronzed and hand lettered and the natural dampers have been refinished. The action has been fully rebuilt utilizing new German Renner wippens, and the finest quality new hammers, shanks and flanges. Our piano technicians have spent many hours regulating and adjusting the action to ensure a responsive touch. Expert tone regulation/voicing has been performed to ensure a full, pleasing quality of tone. The keyboard has been weighed off to proper specifications. We spend hours beyond the industry norm, ensuring that the touch and tone of the piano meet the high standards expected of vintage Mason & Hamlin instruments.

The keyboard features new German Kluge keytops and restored original ebony sharps on the original key sticks. A new premium solid spruce soundboard and bridge caps have been installed along with a new custom fitted pinblock. The result of this work is a stable, concert level instrument that is ready to serve for countless decades to come.

Vintage Mason & Hamlin instruments are famous for their tonal quality and durability. This particular Model AA was built at the company’s original factory in Boston. This pre-1933 period is considered to be the golden age of Mason & Hamlin factory quality. One of the first questions many piano rebuilders and experts ask about a Mason & Hamlin piano is ‘was this made in Boston?’  The caliber of parts and workmanship is considered to be at its peak during this time. Fully restored to a like new, concert level status this piano is ready to play and purchase at our facility today.

Golden Era Piano Craftsmanship

Mason & Hamlin AA #34630 is a prime example of the high caliber of work that was once standard throughout the piano industry. This vintage piano features a tone that is incredibly full and broad with a responsive action that is a pleasure to play.
