1906 Steinway Model A-2 Louis XV Art Case Grand Piano | #123056 – Restored

A feast for both the eyes and the ears, this Steinway & Sons Model A-2 Louis XV Art Case Grand Piano represents the finest in historic craftsmanship and artistry. Crafted in 1906 at the New York Steinway Factory, Steinway A-2 #123056 is completed in a Rococo, Louis XV style. (Officially designated as design Sketch No. 501A.) The case features delicate scrollwork and hand-carved details on every part of the piano. Covered in a delicious cut of mahogany, this 6’2″ grand piano is a stunning piece of golden era piano manufacturing and stands ready for your consideration at our Rebuilding Facility.

The design and quality of the woodworking on the instrument’s case is breathtaking. This piano features a deep, rich mahogany veneer. Historically, Steinway utilized a plainer cut of mahogany on their Louis XV style pianos, in contrast with the usually more figured walnuts. Compared to most Steinway Louis XV style pianos from this era, this cut of Mahogany is unusually well figured. The original solid brass hardware has been polished and new solid brass casters have been installed.

A new solid spruce soundboard has been carefully crafted and fitted to the case, along with a new custom fitted hard maple pinblock. The piano’s action has been fully rebuilt with new hammers, new shanks and flanges, and new German Renner Wippens. A new damper back action has been crafted. New off-white Kluge acrylic keytops have been installed and the original ebony sharps restored. The cabinet scrollwork and other detailing are in excellent condition. The elegant design of this art case piano was typical of turn of the century styling and is still as stunning today as it was a hundred years ago. This art case piano will be a unique and eye-catching musical centerpiece for any room it is placed in.

This piano commands respect both as a work of visual art and as a wonderful musical instrument. Video and audio samples coming soon.
