1917 Steinway & Sons Model C Semi Concert Grand Piano #186437 | Fully Rebuilt

This vintage Steinway & Sons Model C Small Concert Grand was built at the New York Steinway factory in 1917. Measuring an impressive 7’5″ in length, this Model C rivals many Model D Concert Grand pianos in its range of tone and impressive sound – yet doesn’t take up quite as much room. Larger than a Model B yet smaller than a full concert grand, these pianos are versatile and powerful instruments. The figured African Flame Mahogany cabinet has been expertly refinished,  making it a stunning instrument to both hear and see. This Model C features a warm, robust bass and a powerful overreaching tone that can easily fill the corners of any normally sized concert venue.

A Rare Instrument

Model C grand pianos were dubbed a “Semi Concert Grand” or “Small Concert Grand” by Steinway & Sons. First produced between 1878 and 1905, Steinway Model Cs continued to be produced in smaller, custom requested runs in New York between 1906 and 1936. Production of the Model C is regular in Hamburg. Later ‘modern’ Model Cs like this piano are scaled down from the Model D design. Pre-1900 Model Cs did not have agraffes in the tenor section.

This piano, being built in 1917 features a full set of agraffes like the modern pianos of today. This Model C features an exquisite finish and a wide dynamic range and a full, deep tone that is sure to please any concert pianist. Steinway C #186437’s action has been fully regulated by our expert piano technicians for a quick and responsive touch. Tone regulation has been executed to bring out the iconic Steinway ‘golden age’ tone.
