1930 Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano #270927 | Satin Ebony – Fully Restored

The Steinway & Sons Model D Grand Piano is the standard by which other concert grand pianos are judged. This exquisite Steinway Model D was built in 1930, at the height of Steinway New York and Hamburg factory quality. This vintage ‘golden era’ concert instrument has been fully rebuilt by Chupp’s Piano Service. The pre-WWII era of piano manufacturing produced some of the greatest instruments ever to be crafted! The apex of Steinway piano engineering, this nine-foot grand is incredibly responsive and features a uniquely powerful sound and a wide range of tone. After playing one of our many restored Steinway Model Ds, you will understand why over 90% of concert pianists choose to play Steinways and why many universities prefer pianos of older vintage.

One of several pianos we have rebuilt to feature a unique Western Red Cedar soundboard, this piano has the power required to fill even the largest concert halls with that iconic Steinway tone. Replacing the normal spruce soundboard with this specially chosen material results in a piano with an incredibly crisp and beautiful sound. In the 1980s, Fred Drasche, head service technician at Steinway for many years told Dennis Chupp that in the 1950s, the Steinway factory produced two Model D Concert Grands with Western Red Cedar soundboards. This is a very rare opportunity to experience what one of those amazing and unique instruments sounded like! Steinway D #270927 was selected for Cedarville Univesity of Cedarville, Ohio by Steinway Artist John Mortensen.

This Model D has undergone an extensive and exacting rebuilding process to return this concert instrument to its full potential. This fully restored piano features a beautiful, satin ebony, hand rubbed lacquer finish. The original key tops have been replaced with new premium German Kluge Style key tops. The action has been rebuilt with Genuine Steinway hammers, German Renner wippens and much more. The action has been fully regulated and weighed-off to ensure the finest quality of touch. Expert tone regulation has been performed to bring out the piano’s very best. This truly is a marvelous example of vintage Steinway & Sons quality!

The pre-WWII era of piano building is the preferred vintage for Steinway & Sons due to the quality of manufacturing and tone during this period of Steinway’s pianos. The ‘golden age’ of Steinway produced some of the highest caliber of work ever seen in the piano industry. This standard-setting piano is ready for any stage or concert pianist!
