Measuring 7’5″ in length, the Steinway & Sons Model C Semi-Concert Grand is a piano of legend. The 7’5″ Model C is among the rarest and most coveted of all Steinway concert grand designs. Steinway Model C #192829 was built when quality and attention to detail was second to none. This golden era Steinway Grand was manufactured in the New York Steinway Factory in 1919. It has been fully rebuilt to the highest concert standards and is available today from Chupp’s Piano Service, Inc. Have questions? 1919 Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano | Satin Ebony – #192829 – Modern Cabinet – 1 of 171 Produced – Restored
Steinway & Sons Model C Semi-Grand Pianos measure approx 7’5″ in length and are among the rarest of the larger Steinway Grand Pianos. Considered a ‘semi-concert’ grand, these instruments were first produced in New York between 1878 and 1905. These pianos continued to be produced in smaller, custom requested runs between 1906 and 1936 and they are still manufactured at the Hamburg Steinway Factory.
Steinway Model C #192829 was built in 1919 and is one of only 171 “modern” Model C Grands produced at the New York Factory, making this piano incredibly rare! This instrument features a modern Sketch 380 cabinet with square arms. The cabinet has been expertly refinished in a closed pore, hand-rubbed satin ebony lacquer. This contrasts beautifully with the re-plated, original nickel hardware. Steinway Model C #192829 is a truly unique and special instrument – taking its place as a transitional piece in the long history of early 20th century piano models and styling.
The piano’s action has been rebuilt with the finest quality parts including new wippens and Steinway & Sons hammers, shanks, and flanges. Our piano technicians have completed extensive action and tone regulation to bring out a responsive touch and the iconic, New York Steinway tone. The original damper heads have been refinished and new damper felts installed. The massive cast iron plate, the backbone of the piano, was expertly rebronzed. New premium German music wire and custom copper wound bass strings was fitted to blued tuning pins that shine like jewels. These were then driven into a new, custom-fitted hard maple pinblock. A new solid spruce soundboard combines for optimum stability and quality of tone.
This is an absolutely stunning vintage instrument and it will surely be the centerpiece of any room it is placed in. The late 19th, early 20th century is the time that Steinway truly cemented themselves as the world’s premier piano builder. This piano is a true example of the golden age of piano craftsmanship and is an instrument of true, concert-level quality.
