1920 Steinway & Sons Model M Grand Piano #203506 | Satin Ebony – Undergoing Restoration

A staple of both the New York and Hamburg Steinway & Sons factories, the 5’7″ Model M Grand Piano has grown to become one of the most popular instruments ever crafted by this legendary company. First introduced to the piano world in 1911, these ‘baby grand’ pianos are seen in home and institutional use alike. When properly rebuilt, these instruments boast a powerhouse quality of tone that is surprising given their convenient size.

Steinway Model M Grand Piano #203506 was built in 1920 at the New York Steinway & Sons factory. This piano has been carefully evaluated by us and selected for a full restoration. This instrument is currently undergoing an extensive restoration/rebuilding process in order to return it to a like new, concert-ready condition.

Built in 1920, Steinway Model M #203506 is currently undergoing a full restoration. The piano’s action will be fully rebuilt with the finest quality select parts. This will include new dimensionally correct wippens and new hard pressed hammers and new shanks and flanges. New acrylic keytops will be installed and the original ebony sharps will be hand sanded and polished. The action will be carefully regulated and voiced to allow for a responsive touch and the classic Steinway quality of tone. New premium music wire and custom manufactured copper wound bass strings will be coiled to blued tuning pins. These will be driven into a new custom fitted hard maple pinblock. A new soundboard constructed of the finest quality solid spruce will be custom tapered and fitted to the piano’s case.

Craftsmen will remove the old cast iron plate finish and spray it in a rich bronzed finish.  The cabinet will be refinished in a rich satin ebony and will be stunning when combined with the restored original nickel hardware. Fully restored, this golden age Steinway grand will fully embody the traits expected of a world-class grand piano.

Our piano rebuilding process is tailored with the primary focus being the performance of the piano as a musical instrument, capable of supporting the artistry of any pianist, amateur or professional. We have specialized in Steinway piano restoration for over four decades and continue to advance the high level of craftsmanship that was once standard during the ‘golden age’ of piano quality.
